InFocus Play Big X10 review
May 11, 2009 by Insider Staff
A beast of a projector, the Play Big X10 crams in more lumens than most other picture-throwers out there, but can that make it top dog?
Pros
The hulking InFocus Play Big X10 is a game changer in the world of DLP projectors, offering incredible full 1080p high definition pictures and a spec sheet usually reserved for pricier models. The pictures it produces are nothing short of stunning, with Casino Royale on Blu–Ray appearing beautifully sharp and at almost cinema grade. The 2,500:1 contrast rato means you get excellent definition on even the most busy of shots.
Cons
It’s difficult to lay many criticisms at the X10’s door. However, the much–hyped rainbow effect (that’s nowt to do with George, Zippy and Bungle by the way) found on many HD projectors is notable. It appears occasionally in the corner of the shot, although it would be picky to complain that this detracts from the projectors many plus points. On a purely cosmetic level, this is one of the biggest projectors on test. It tips the scales at a hefty 6.5kg.
In summary then…
The Play Big X10 is one of, if not the, best value High-Definition projectors on the market. It allows you to experience vast pictures, up to 92 inches, in your own home, although you will need to ensure the room is as dark as a well at night time to get the full effect, in spite of what manuals and official literature says. The decent contrast ratio, 2,500 hour lamp life and 1,200 lumens are enough to sate even the hardiest of home cinema buffs, but we just cannot look past the fact that this offers astonishing value for money, seeing off models that cost twice the price. It’s very hard to look past this InFocus model.
